TEHRAN, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Iran has blasted recent remarks by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas against the Islamic Republic.
In an interview with the official IRNA news agency published on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei debunked Kallas' recent comments, particularly the ones she made on Monday during her visit to Israel.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, Kallas said, "We agree (on) the immense threat Iran poses to the region and global stability. Iran is a threat also supporting Russia's war in Ukraine. Iran must never be allowed to acquire or build a nuclear weapon, and the EU supports all diplomatic efforts to that effect."
Baghaei said if Kallas was truly concerned about stability and security in the West Asia region, she should have focused on Israel's "genocide in Gaza and frequent aggression against Lebanon and Syria as well as military occupation of the two Arab states' land."
He said that "baseless remarks, illogical comments and hypocritical claims" were a trio failing to have any credibility. Kallas' remarks tarnished the image and reputation of the EU, he added.
