DUBAI, 23rd April, 2025 (WAM) -- The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in collaboration with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), hosted the Regional Workshop for the Directors of Maritime Administrations. The workshop is part of the preparations for the audit programme of IMO members.
Participants highlighted best practices in compliance with maritime agreements and conventions and ways to improve performance in maritime administrations, contributing to better marine safety and environmental protection.
The workshop focused on improving the readiness of member countries for the audit process through explaining technical and administrative requirements, showcasing successful experiences, and introducing participants to the audit processes and ways to address comments.
Eng. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs at MoEI, said, "The UAE's hosting of the regional workshop reflects the country's leading stand as a global maritime hub and its active role in supporting the directives of IMO to achieve the highest levels of safety and sustainability at sea. It is in line with the country's commitment to driving cross-border synergies among IMO members.
We work relentlessly to develop national maritime capabilities as per top global standards. This helps reaffirm the UAE's position as one of the best maritime centres in the world."
Al Malek concluded the session by presenting practical recommendations aimed at enhancing the nation's readiness for the upcoming audit programme. He also emphasised the importance of continued cooperation among member states and the International Maritime Organisation to align efforts in building a more secure and sustainable maritime sector.
