U.S. Senate passes Trump's landmark mega-bill
The GOP-led Senate on Tuesday passed U.S. President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, a major stride toward Trump's goal of getting the legislation to his desk and signed by this week's end.
The sweeping bill passed narrowly by 51 to 50, with U.S. Vice President JD Vance casting the deciding ballot. Three Republicans were the only GOP lawmakers to vote no: senators Susan Collins, Thom Tillis and Rand Paul.
The legislation is considered the GOP's biggest legislative win in the lead-up to next year's midterms, in which the party could lose its slim majority in the House.
The bill extends Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, slashes taxes on tips and provides new spending for the military and border security.
Thailand's Constitutional Court suspends PM Paetongtarn
Thailand's Constitutional Court suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Tuesday after accepting a petition seeking her removal from office over a leaked phone call on border issues with Cambodia.
A panel of judges unanimously voted to accept the petition and ordered Paetongtarn to stop performing her duties as prime minister starting Tuesday pending a final ruling, the court said in a statement.
To prevent serious and irreparable damage, temporary measures shall be taken, the court said, adding that the defendant is prohibited from exercising duties and powers related to national security, foreign affairs, and finance until the court delivers its ruling.
The decision comes after a group of senators last month filed a petition accusing Paetongtarn of breaching the constitution by serious violation of ethical standards over the telephone conversation with Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Macron, Putin hold phone conversation on Iran, Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed on Tuesday Iran's nuclear program and the Ukraine situation in their first phone conversation since 2022.
On Iran, Macron emphasized that as permanent members of the UN Security Council, France and Russia share responsibilities under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), according to the Elysee Palace.
He underscored the urgent need for Iran to comply with its obligations and cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) so that inspectors can resume their work without delay.
Nevertheless, Macron reaffirmed France's commitment to a diplomatic path toward a lasting and rigorous resolution of Iran's nuclear and missile activities, as well as its role in the region, the Elysee Palace said.
Yemen's Houthi group claims missile strike on Israel's Ben Gurion airport
Yemen's Houthi group on Tuesday claimed responsibility for launching a ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel.
In a televised statement broadcast by the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, the group's military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said they had "carried out a special military operation targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv using a hypersonic ballistic missile of the Palestine-2 type."
According to Sarea, the missile strike "successfully achieved its goal" by forcing "millions of settlers into shelters and disrupting airport operations."
Sarea also claimed that a wave of one-way unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks targeted what he described as "three sensitive sites" in Eilat, Tel Aviv, and Ashkelon.
45 Palestinians killed in Israeli army across Gaza
At least 45 Palestinians were killed by Israeli shelling and gunfire in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Gaza's Civil Defense said, while the Israeli army announced that it had attacked 140 targets in the coastal enclave over the past 24 hours.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, told Xinhua that an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of Palestinians in the Jabalia area in the northern Gaza Strip, killing five people.
Five other people were killed in two airstrikes launched by Israeli drones, which targeted a house in the al-Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City and a gathering of Palestinians in the al-Zeitoun neighborhood in the south, according to Basal.
In Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, Basal said that 18 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks targeting residential homes and tents housing displaced persons in various parts of the city.
Hostilities, displacements, restrictions threaten survival of Gazans: UN
Intensifying military operations in northern Gaza, together with displacement orders and dwindling basic humanitarian services, are depriving Gazans of the means to survive, UN humanitarians said Tuesday.
Since the latest Israeli evacuation orders were issued for northern regions of the strip on Sunday, at least 1,500 families have been displaced, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), quoting its partners on the ground.
Five school buildings sheltering displaced families in northern Gaza were reportedly hit, with deaths and injuries. Initial assessments by OCHA partners indicate that many families who fled from the schools after the attack have returned to northern Gaza, mainly due to the lack of alternatives and limited shelter space elsewhere, said the office.
Humanitarians said health care is also under attack.
Trump suggests cutting Tesla subsidies, Musk threatens to unseat Congressmen who vote for "big, beautiful bill"
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested the government efficiency department could slash the subsidies to Tesla CEO Elon Musk's companies to save money, as Musk renewed his criticism of Trump's "big, beautiful bill."
"Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa," Trump said in a Truth Social post.
"No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!" said Trump.
The remarks came as Musk threatened that the lawmakers who support Trump's "big, beautiful bill" risk losing their primaries next year.
